The Clinico-Pathological Observation of the Uterine Myoma


Abstract
At Ewha Womans University Hospital, 115 cases of myoma of the uterus were reviewed during 7 years period from tide beginning of 1970 to Nov. 1977. The results were as follows;
l. The incidence of myoma among 930 cases of the major gynecological ope-ration was 12.4%
2. The frequency of myoma was highest in aged group between 40-49 years and next, 30-39 years.
3. The average age of menarche was 16 years.
4. The corporeal myoma was the most frequent location (90. 4%) and cervical was 7.0%. The types of myoma consist of 44.3% of intramural myoma, 27.5% of sub serous and 16% of sub mucous myoma.
5. The most common symptoms of myoma was pain (66.2%)and the next abno-rmal uterine bleeding(65.2%) and palpable mass(24.3%). The menometrorrhagia was seen most frequently in the sub mucous type.
6. Infertility was observed 47 cases(40.9%) of total cases, in which the pri-mary infertility is 15.7% and secondary is 25.2% respectively. The intramural and the sub mucous type revealed relatively high incidence of infertility, 41.2% and 36.6% respectively.
7. Anemia(less than 10.0gm%) was seen in 38 cases(33. 1%) and 3.4% in sev ere anemia.
8. The most frequently associated conditions in the myoma of uterus were ov-arian cyst(18.3%).
9. The most cases(80. 8%) of myoma of the uterus were treated by total abdo-minal hysterectomy and myomectomy in 12.2%. There was no operative mortality.
